Sally Now a Category 1 Hurricane With 85 MPH Winds
The National Hurricane Center has just reported Sally is now a hurricane with 85 mph winds as it churns in the Gulf of Mexico headed towards the Mississippi coast.
As of now, Hurricane Sally is on track to make landfall around the Mississippi/Alabama coast as a Cat 2 storm and will bring the potential for life-threatening storm surge, destructive winds, and heavy rainfall along the northern Gulf starting today (09/14/20).
From Daniel Phillips from KATC -
"The forward movement has slowed to a crawl which will give Sally more time over water to get its act together, so expect the intensity of a strong Category 1 storm, with winds around 90 mph around landfall.
A nudge eastward would also minimize the interaction the storm would have with land which could help with intensification, there should still be some shear which will be working in our favor against Sally."
