The software updates are done, the routes have been researched, and the schedules are in place. That's what officials with Lafayette Parish Schools are telling parents ahead of the start of the 2018-2019 school year.

Now is the time for parents to visit the LPSS website and double check school bus routes, bus stops, and pick up and drop off times as they pertain to their children. The school systems transportation hotline has also been activated to answer questions from concerned parents. That number is 521-RIDE (7433). The line is open from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM each weekday.

Officials with Lafayette Parish Schools transportation department says the system has added a few more routes to this year's transportation schedule. The hope is that the new routes will offset the confusion that was caused by last year's significant drop in the number of bus routes.

This year school buses in Lafayette Parish will travel over 250 routes before and after school as they ferry children to and from classes. With an operation this large there are bound to be bumps in the road. That's why school officials are encouraging parents and students to become familiar with their specific bus schedule now instead of waiting for the first day of classes.
