School District in Texas to Start Drug Testing 12-Year-Olds

Bushland Independent School District Superintendent Chris Wigington claims that his schools don't have a drug problem, and he intends to keep it that way. How? Drug testing students.

A school district outside of Amarillo Texas will start drug testing students who want to play sports or participate in after school activities. Children as young as 12 years old will have to take drug tests administered by the school.

If your student is old enough to be driving themselves to school and they want to park in the school parking lot, they also will have to be drug tested. Does your kid want to help with the yearbook? Maybe they want to be class president. Well, your kids better agree to a drug test then.

A few months ago the School Board agreed to set aside some funds so the schools can administer drug tests. Saliva swabs and urine samples are the preferred methods of conducting drug tests. The substances they're looking for are alcohol, marijuana, heroin, and opioids.

If you are thinking this is unconstitutional, the U.S. Supreme Court in 2002 made it to where schools could administer these tests.
