A Lafayette man ended up behind bars in Jennings after police say he was shooting off an Airsoft gun at cars in the parking lot.

Jennings Police Chief Todd D'Albor said the incident was considered one of vandalism because of the weapon. Airsoft guns fire off plastic pellets. No injuries were reported, and D'Albor said his department was quelling rumors of a "shooter at Walmart." Nearby schools were locked down temporarily, however, until the suspect was apprehended.

Police arrested Craig A. Neil, 51, of Lafayette, and in the process of booking him, realized he was also an unregistered sex offender. Neil is being charged with felony criminal damage to property, an open container violation, and failure to register as a sex offender.

Neil did break some car windows, though the full extent of the property damage he allegedly caused has not been released.
