Things were anything but quiet over the weekend concerning the St. Martinville City Council. Friday night a special meeting of the council was interrupted by an unannounced visit from Mayor Melinda Mitchell's husband.

This was news because the visit by Lawrence Mitchell was in violation of a protective order that councilman Craig Proper had filed against him back in January.

Mitchell was arrested following that council meeting but was apparently released on bond after only being incarcerated for just a few hours. According to a report in the Daily Iberian, this third violation of a protective order by the mayor's husband is the reason that Prosper is expected to resign his seat on the council sometime this week.

Prosper made these comments as reported by the Daily Iberian:

This man has consistently violated a protective order. I don’t have a door to escape if anything happens. I have taken all of the proper steps, and after three violations he is released on a $500 bond? It might as well have been $50.

Prosper reportedly has a meeting planned for today with his legal counsel and the District Attorney's office to discuss the situation.
