Dreams of passenger rail from Louisiana to the beaches of the Gulf Coast are a little closer to become reality this morning following a major announcement.

The Southern Rail Commission met September 8th to discuss passenger rail service between New Orleans and Mobile, New Orleans and Baton Rouge, and an I-20 route across north Louisiana.

Based on new information we now have a better idea when passenger rail service from Louisiana eastward to Mississippi and Alabama might actually begin.

There has been major progress in connecting Louisiana to the beaches of Alabama, Florida, and beyond via passenger rail service. Here's when it might actually happen.

Finally a trip to the beach without the bottlenecks in Baton Rouge and the tunnel in Mobile.

While details are developing, initial reports say that there are injuries as a result of the incident.

The route along the northern Gulf Coast has been closed since 2005's Hurricane Katrina.

Cruises from U.S. ports have been suspended through September 15th, Amtrak train services across the nation will see cutbacks beginning in October.
