Now that Austin Powers has safely moved past its “overexposure through incessant quoting” phase, there’s a lot to love about the movie. The peppy flute theme from Quincy Jones, Myers’ screwloose double-turn as the International Man of Mystery and his pinky-brandishing nemesis, the kitschy ’60s-by-way-of-’90s design, it‘s all a pretty good time. (Not to mention that the tactfully obscured nude scene is a marvel of blocking and composition.) A recent oral history has gotten Myers’ most beloved comic creation back in the public eye, and amidst rumors that a sequel may be in the cards at some indeterminate point in the future, another surprising discovery has been made.

It seems like tons of hit movies from the pre-2000′s wind up with musical adaptions on Broadway, and now it seems ‘Austin Powers’ is next on the list. Following in the footsteps of ‘Legally Blonde,’ ‘Footloose,’ ‘Rocky’ and ‘Sister Act,’ Mike Myers is reportedly in talks to turn his popular movie into a Broadway musical.

Aside from voiceover work in the ‘Shrek’ franchise, the last time Mike Myers headlined on the big screen was in 2008′s disastrous box-office and critical flop, ‘The Love Guru.’ Now, the ‘Saturday Night Live’ alum is going back to the tried and true. He’s signed on to reprise the randy, dental-hygienically-challenged British spy Austin Powers in a fourth installment of the movie series.
