The network that canceled Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Last Man on Earth is placing its faith in Tim Allen. Following initial rumors, FOX confirms Allen’s Last Man Standing will return for new episodes after its cancellation at ABC last year.
The Simpsons’ response to decades of Apu concerns proved less than ideal, and it’s still unclear if the FOX animation staple will consider changes. Star Hank Azaria is rethinking his role, however, and now claims he’s “willing to step aside.”
Just when you thought FX and Ryan Murphy wrung every last drop from The People v. O.J. Simpson, FOX will air another side of the story. Twelve years after FOX had the good sense to pull O.J. Simpson’s distasteful If I Did It special, The Juice will officially be loose as a Lost Confession in the coming weeks.
Simpsons character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon has long-influenced stereotypes about people from India, so much so that comedian Hari Kondabolu made a full documentary about The Problem With Apu. The Simpsons hasn’t had to replace any of its core voice cast just yet, but will nonetheless sound a bit different in Season 29. Longtime composer Alf Clausen was apparently let go from the series after nearly three decades, while the show pursues “a different kind of music.”
American Idol moving to ABC is bound to leave FOX a little green, and they might even spend a little in retaliation. FOX is apparently working on a brand-new singing competition to rival Idol and The Voice with a unique format.
While A Christmas Story is about as bold a holiday choice these years as Die Hard — did you know it takes place during Christmas???! — I’ll always carry a candle for Bob Clark’s story of a family growing up in 1940s America. My own extended family would gather for the holidays each year and practically have A Christmas Story on a loop; it was a good day, then, when TBS saved us the trouble of rewinding the VHS tapes and started playing the film 24/7 on our behalf. Cliche or not, A Christmas Story still sets the stage for the holidays in my household.
You’re not living in a parallel universe, but you might as well get used to the phrase “American Idol, live from ABC!” The reality singing hit is officially coming back for another round, moving from its FOX home in a surprising upset for the major networks.
Whether or not American Idol jumped the gun to plot a reboot so soon after its “Farewell Season,” the point may be moot. Reports indicate that neither NBC nor FOX were able to negotiate a deal with the studios behind Idol, likely shelving any revival for the foreseeable future.
If you thought the cord-cutters’ market was aggressive before, just wait until you get a load of YouTube TV. The online video staple announced the full scope of its live TV bundle, complete with unlimited cloud DVR and a moderate monthly subscription fee.
It hasn’t been terribly long since FOX said goodbye to American Idol, what with the whole “reality competition” craze having appreciably cooled since the early 2000s regardless. Still, leave it to NBC to potentially drag Ryan Seacrest back to the stage for a revival season, throwing The Voice into question in the process.
The Simpsons still has a few surprises left in its old age, and after going live this past season, Springfield will chart a new frontier: the full hour! After 28 years, America’s favorite family will run a full hour-long episode for the very first time, with special guest Taraji P. Henson and more.
Are you a Cox customer who kicked back to watch one of your favorite NBC or FOX programs this weekend only to realize those channels weren't available?
