After closing earlier this morning (04/13/22) due to an overturned tanker reportedly carrying hazardous materials, I-10 eastbound at I-49 has re-opened.
State Police Troop A TFC Taylor J. Scrantz said Lt. Todd Alcorn of the Lafayette Police Department was involved in a two-car crash around 7:00 am Sunday at mile marker 132, about five miles east of Whiskey Bay.
Reports are saying that a man from Metairie died as he was traveling back home from Texas after evacuating from Hurricane Ida. Authorities say that 29-year-old Timothy Achee was traveling along I-10 near Grosse Tete and Lobdell when an 18-wheeler smashed into stopped vehicles, igniting a fiery cluster on the interstate.
Most of the work is scheduled for the nighttime hours but there could be some lane and shoulder closures along I-10 for motorists who travel during that time.
According to reports, a five car pileup along I-10 resulted in multiple injuries but no human deaths. A horse trailer was involved in the accident and resulted in "several horses" dying.
