Upsets and world records ruled the day on Day 2 of competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Here’s a brief recap of Sunday’s action:

After yesterday’s Opening Ceremony, the 2012 Summer Olympics had its first full day of competition on Saturday.

Perhaps the most successful U.S. athlete of all-time, Michael Phelps, will not be walking into the 2012 Summer Olympics with his team this week. According to Yahoo Sports, the 14-time gold medalist told reporters he won't join his teammates during Friday night's celebration in order to rest for his first event the following morning.

Good news for Spice Girls fans. After turning down a performance at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee earlier this year, the ladies will reunite for a performance at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics Summer Games on Aug. 12. They’re doing it for their country!

Despite slaying the charts with her 11th No. 1 single, Rihanna has managed to stay grounded as the dollars roll in. The latest evidence? In a charming show of humility (not to mention a brilliant PR move), Queen RiRi rode the tube to her own concert in London at the O2 Arena — and though we saw pictures of the results a few weeks back, seeing the video in full as part of her ‘Talk That Talk’ webis
