Louisiana health officials say two measles cases have been confirmed, and whooping cough infections are already surpassing last year’s totals—with infants most at risk.
Louisiana confirms its first measles case of the year in Region 1. The case follows international travel and comes as neighboring Texas battles a wider outbreak.
When speaking with reporters about the measles outbreak, Senator Cassidy said "It’s going to be in Lake Charles. It’s going to be in Lafayette and Baton Rouge."
Thought to be eliminated in the US since 2000, the number of measles cases spiked last year to 222, the highest number in 15 years. Not surprisingly, the majority of those affected did not receive the measles vaccine, said a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
