For some reason, things happen thru the years, and things that were once so fun, well just aren't as exciting. For me personally, I LOVE Mardi Gras!!! But more than that, I LOVE my "King Cakes."However, in recent years, I have noticed that when you purchase a "King Cake" the baby is no longer hidden in the cake. I can vividly recall my sisters and I racing through a King Cake to find the baby. Every year, we anxiously awaited this time of year just so that we could get the cake, and compete to find the baby. Tradition has it, or should I say had it, that whomever found the baby in a given year, they were to buy the King Cake next year. And while we never really played up to that tradition, it was still fun to "try and find the baby." After several lawsuits, apparently those making King Cakes have decided to no longer hide the baby inside the cake. While I can't at this particular time cite a case, I'm sure someone sued a baker because they choked on the hidden baby. Somebody eating the cake probably choked on the baby, and felt that the baker was responsible. Hence, the baby is now on the the outside of the cake when you buy it.

The fun of hunting for the baby in the King Cake is now a thing of the past. While I certainly can't blame the bakers, I do directly balme those who have sued them. Shame on you for not only taking the fun out of our King cakes, but also shame on you for taking away a tradition. I guess its the world we live in right? I just wish we could bite into a King Cake and hope that the piece of cake we have is home to the hidden baby. True, you could hide the baby in the cake after you purchase it, but thats like wrapping your own Christmas Gifts....Not fun!!! Any way, continue to eat King Cake, and HAPPY MARDI GARS!!!!
