When I opened up my mail today the last thing I expected to see was a handwritten note from one of the biggest pop stars on earth.

I heard that Taylor was writing these to other program directors and radio people, but it never once crossed my mind that I would ever be on the receiving end of one of these coveted notes. I'm a skeptical guy by nature, so my first thought after receiving the note was that some intern wrote this and had Taylor sign it.

But, unless Taylor's camp hired some type of forgery wizard, her handwriting totally checks out.

The reason I know this, is because Taylor has been doing this handwritten 'Thank You' note thing for quite some time now—and just recently, radio programmers shared notes they received from Taylor after meeting the pop star on her 1989 World Tour.

Handwritten notes and letters seem to be a lost art—and in the digital age of email, texts, social media comment threads and a society that "snaps" everything from their meals to their life experiences, the impact of receiving something so simple still outweighs just about any other form of communication.

What makes this extra cool to me is that it wasn't necessary. Taylor Swift is a mega star who doesn't have to do things like this, but still chooses to do them anyway—in a very careful manner that is both detailed (she mentioned everyone she met with me in Baton Rouge by name, pictured below) and sincere.

Young artists, take note (no pun intended).

I've personally dealt with artists who barely had a hit on the radio and they would refuse meet-and-greets and blow off their fans while carrying themselves with an untouchable Hollywood image.

Many of them were forgotten within a calendar year.

I'm not saying artists need to worship the ground that radio people walk on or kiss up to their fans—but the ones who choose to do the complete opposite usually aren't around for long.

If anyone is wondering how Taylor Swift got to be one of the most beloved artists—both amongst her fans and the music industry—I would say these small gestures are definitely a huge part of what sets her apart from so many other artists in the business.

This type of behavior doesn't come from good management, nor does it come from any collection of industry trade secrets. If there is anything to credit, it would probably be Taylor's parents for raising her to respect others and to simply do right by people.

Maybe that's why her mom still tours with her to this day?

Little things like this definitely don't hurt when it comes to getting others to support whatever you're doing—no matter who you are.

Thanks to Ms. Swift, I'll definitely be putting some solid effort into making more small gestures.

In the meantime, she may be the nicest human being ever.
