Yes, we have had a black lead before. In the 2017 season, "Bachelorette" Rachel Lindsay made history, and now, 28-year-old Matt James will become the first black "Bachelor" to take the stage front and center.
Originally James was supposed to be a suitor for "The Bachelorette" with Clare Crawley leading the upcoming show. However, production was suspended due to the pandemic. During the pandemic shutdown, Matt James and Tyler Cameron were part of the Quarantine Crew on TikTok and why lie, that's when I fell in love with Matt James. Bachelor Nation sure loved James and Cameron teaming up and dancing shirtless. That's when producers figured out James would be an amazing choice.
ABC President Karey Burke said in a news release. "This is just the beginning, and we will continue to take action with regard to diversity issues on this franchise."
