LAFAYETTE, La. (999KTDY) - If you have ever wondered what it's like to be on the streets of Lafayette patrolling, investigating crimes, and helping people in a crisis? You can get your chance coming up this June.

The Lafayette Police Department will be holding The Citizens Academy this summer. The program starts June 7. Each Wednesday night starting at 6 p.m. you can get a look at all of the following:

  • Recruiting
  • Administration
  • Patrol Operations
  • Traffic Enforcement
  • SWAT
  • Communications
  • Hostage Negotiations
  • Crime Scene Investigations

As long as you have a clean record and you are 18, you have a chance to get into the program.

If you would like to be a part of this experience, you need to fill out an application which needs to be turned in to the police department by May 8th. Along with that application you need to give them a copy of your Driver's license/ID. Don't forget you have to drop off your application at the Lafayette Police Department in the lobby.

All of the interested people's applications will then be put in a lottery. If your name is chosen you will be notified that you will be a part of this summer's Citizens Academy. Twenty people will be chosen for the event.
