Why did Trinidad James unleash an rant dissing New York City rap last week? Well, he says his words are justified, but clarifies that in no way was he "disrespecting the city at all."

In a video entitled 'The Truth Will Set You Free,' Trinidad explains why he said Atlanta rap "runs New York" during a Converse Rubber Tracks show in Brooklyn. "This is not an apology, and I’m not apologizing for the truth. I don’t believe in that," he reveals. "But this is to let the city of New York know: I wasn’t trying to disrespect you. At all. I can never do that. That’s against my code as a man. Forget being a rapper. I don’t really care. Most of y'all don’t think I can rap anyway.”

The 'All Gold Everything' rhymer said that New York City radio only plays Southern rappers and needs to support their own. He shouted out local rappers like Action Bronson and Black Dave, who Trinidad believes receives no hometown love.

He does however, admit that he picked the wrong forum for telling "the truth." "When I say wrong messenger, I’m not saying that because I only have one hit record, no album yet, that I don’t have the right credentials to say that. What happened was, I picked the wrong place to have a barbershop conversation."

Trinidad hopes to continue to come and "make money" in New York, even though his words haven't settled well with the city's hip-hop supporters.
