Thursday the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, released a report that enrollment for the Affordable Care Act (ACA/Obamacare) was up 46%. As a result of COVID-19 pandemic 1/2 million Americans lost their jobs and healthcare benefits. So far, 487,000 people have taken advantage of the special enrollment period and signed up for benefits.

Unemployment is at an all-time high and a deadly pandemic is wreaking havoc around the globe. The last thing people need to worry about is losing their healthcare, especially when there’s no back-up plan to replace it. Yet, it doesn’t appear to matter to the Trump administration. Late Thursday, the President asked the Supreme Court to completely dismantle the ACA.

The Washington Post reports Trump told the Supreme Court “the entire Affordable Care Act must fall.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had just filed a bill to expand ACA coverage on Wednesday. She said it was unfathomably cruel to rip away protections and benefits the ACA provides to millions of Americans in the middle of a global pandemic. Pelosi added, Trump has no moral reason to strip 23 million people of their health issues.

Thursday while in Pennsylvania at a campaign event, Former Vice President Joe Biden, addressed Trump's latest move and called it heartless. Biden said trashing the healthcare law would serve as a double whammy to covid-19 survivors. He fears without ACA protection on preexisting conditions, it paves the way for insurers to deny coverage.

Reportedly the Supreme Court decision to strike down President Obama’s landmark healthcare law may not come before the November election. It’s very possible no ruling will be made until sometime in 2021. Meanwhile, oral arguments in the case have been scheduled for next term.
