Imagine going to sleep in your bed at night owing thousands of dollars on your home, your car, maybe student loans, or medical bills and waking up with all of those financial burdens eliminated from your life. For two players in last night's multi-state lottery game  Powerball that's exactly what's happening in their lives.

Yes, the Powerball jackpot finally got a big winner. In fact, the game got two winners. Or at least two tickets that matched all the numbers necessary to claim the game's top prize were sold for the drawing that happened last night ( January 5, 2022)

If you didn't catch those numbers as the ping pong balls dropped there are as follows:

06   14   25   33   46   Powerball 17 and Powerplay x2

The Powerball website says the two big-ticket winners were sold in Wisconsin and in California. The ticket holders will split the $632.6 million dollar prize. Last night's jackpot was the seventh-largest jackpot in the game's history.

In addition to the two top prize tickets, there were two tickets sold for last night's drawing that can lay claim to a prize of $2 million. Those tickets were sold in Florida and Georgia and in both cases, the ticket purchaser opted for the Powerplay which doubled their prize winnings.

Powerball also made 12 new millionaires across the country with million-dollar prize winning tickets sold in Florida, actually three tickets sold there. New York had two $1 million dollar winners. And, there were million-dollar tickets sold in Arizona, California, Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey, and Texas.

Louisiana Had a Powerball Winner as Well

According to the Big Wins in Louisiana page on the Louisiana Lottery website there was a $100,000 winning ticket sold in Lake Charles. The Lottery page says the ticket was purchased at the Big Lake C-Store on Big Lake Road in Lake Charles.

If you purchased a ticket there for last night's game, I'd be checking those numbers. According to lottery officials, the Lake Charles winner matched four of the five white-ball numbers and the Powerball. The ticket purchasers also opted in on the Powerplay which doubled the winnings to $100,000.

The Powerball jackpot, which had not been won since October of last year, will now return to its starting level of $20 million for Saturday's drawing on January 8th. Meanwhile, the Mega Millions game will have an estimated top prize of $278 million when that game holds its next drawing on Friday night.
