The 2016 Oscar Nominations have caused a stir on social media and among the Hollywood elite over a clear lack of diversity among the nominees. The academy's refusal to acknowledge non-white actors for the second year in a row has inspired the #OscarsStillSoWhite hashtag—a continuation of last year's #OscarsSoWhite—and has prompted stars like Jada Pinkett Smith and filmmaker Spike Lee to announce that they won't be supporting this year's awards with their attendance.

Fast and Furious actor Tyrese Gibson has chimed in, calling for Chris Rock to step down as the host of the 88th annual awards. Earlier today (January 20), People shared an exclusive video of Gibson's interview with People Now, in which also he also expresses his honest thoughts on friend Leonardo DiCaprio. Watch the video below.

Gibson states that he knows "more white people than most white people," saying he doesn't have a racist bone in his body. In his opinion, if it were an issue of LGBT right rather than race, things would be different. "If the host Chris Rock was a homosexual, he would have stepped down already," Gibson asserts. He also argues that Rock cannot crack any joke or make any statement that would have as much impact as stepping down as host would.

Gibson also said he feels bad for DiCaprio because this issue is happening the same year the actor may win his first Oscar. "Leo's got too many black friends," Gibson says, with humor in his voice. "He's definitely the most black white man I've met in my life."

Mexican-Kenyan actress and film director Lupita Nyong'o has also expressed her disappointment with the 2016 Oscars via Instagram. The "lack of inclusion," she explains, "has me thinking about unconscious prejudice and what merits prestige in our culture." Read the Academy Award winner's full statement below.
