UL Gets LEH Grant To Host Voting Rights Program
LAFAYETTE--The University of Louisiana will host the voting rights history program that the Lafayette Public Library Board of Control rejected.
As first reported by KATC, the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities awarded that $2,700 grant to the university on Thursday. Upon receiving the grant, the university also issued a statement defending Dr. Theodore Foster, the professor who will be the program's facilitator. The statement, in part, said, "Dr. Foster is a dynamic and thoughtful scholar of Black life, culture and politics in our nation. That he is qualified to facilitate this discussion and provide context to it is without question. The University, its students and our wider community are fortunate to have him here."
That defense comes after member of the library board questioned Dr. Foster's objectivity and political leanings.
