UL Lafayette instructor and assistant dean in the College of Liberal Arts, Carolyn Dural, died this week due to complications from COVID-19. Dural was 62 years old. The UL community is heartbroken as they remember her one-of-a-kind personality and true dedication.

Dural’s sister, Lena Domingue says Dural dedicated her life to the university when while battling her own health problems, according to KATC.

You'd never know she was sick. She was doing dialysis, and she was doing chemo, and she was still leaving there and going straight to work. We would fuss with her and tell her, 'you need to take it easy, you need to chill a little bit.' She wouldn't hear any of it. She said her students needed her.  Lena Domingue

Dural graduated from the university and stayed to begin her teaching career. She eventually became the assistant dean of College Liberal Arts. Her students meant everything to her and they knew it. The College of Liberal Arts created a tribute on Facebook where faculty, students, or anyone else in the community can share their love and memories. The outpouring of love and support from the community is a testament to the dedication to her job, and legendary skills in guiding students.

The family said a memorial service will be planned at a later time with COVID-19 restrictions in place.
