Portion of Downtown Lafayette Street Set to Close for Two Months
Lafayette Consolidated Government has announced the closure of E. Vermilion Street between Lee Avenue and Taylor Street, scheduled from August 1 through October 7, 2024. This closure is necessary to facilitate crucial drainage infrastructure repairs.
The project aims to enhance the roadway's drainage capacity, ultimately improving the area's resilience to heavy rainfall and reducing the risk of flooding.
While the repairs are underway, detour routes will be clearly marked to ensure minimal disruption to traffic flow.
Detour Routes:
- Lee Avenue
- Garfield Street
- Taylor Street
Local access will be maintained throughout the closure period to ensure that residents and businesses in the affected area can continue their daily activities with minimal inconvenience.
Downtown Lafayette CEO Kevin Blanchard emphasized the efforts being made to minimize the impact on the community: "We are coordinating with public works and police to accommodate downtown events during the closure and make sure they go off without a hitch."
The LCG emphasizes the importance of these repairs in maintaining and improving the infrastructure in Downtown Lafayette and within Lafayette Parish. LCG appreciates the community's patience and understanding during this period.
