Heritage Baton Rouge television station WAFB Channel 9 is off the air in Lafayette. A call to the WAFB newsroom confirmed the change. Channel 9 was a CBS affiliate that has always been available in the Lafayette market. This put it up against Lafayette CBS affiliate KLFY TV-10.

A KPEL listener alerted us to an on-screen message that said the station would no longer be available on COX starting on February 13th. In a call to the WAFB Baton Rouge newsroom, a rep said confirmed the change saying, "We're not allowed to broadcast in that area anymore." Acadiana viewers tuned in for decades for WAFB coverage of the Capitol and closely followed long-time evening anchor Donna Britt.

KPEL News reached out to David D'Aquin with COX. He sent the following statement:

Cox is constantly reviewing our video lineup to provide quality and diverse choices for our customers. In this situation, multiple channels of CBS were provided. WAFB offered CBS programming that was already being provided by KLFY in Lafayette.

A check of rival cable provider LUS Fiber's channel guide shows it does not offer WAFB.
