2020 will go down as one of the most challenging years in modern history.

Sadly, we experienced what it was like to live through a global pandemic, we witnessed family and neighbors lose everything due to hurricanes and we saw a country become divided over a presidential election.

Still, for many, we made it through 2020 and we should rejoice. Look, I know some of you reading this may have lost loved ones this year and many of you may have even lost your job in 2020, but brighter days are ahead.

Someone asked me a few weeks ago what evidence I have that 2021 will be better, I replied, "I have no evidence, but I do have hope."

So as I look back on the year 2020, I think back on the good that I saw right here in our own community. I saw so many of you answer the call after two major hurricanes hit southwest Louisiana.

For a week I watched people unload their entire vehicle with supplies and necessities for those to the west of Acadiana.

For two weeks I talked to those of you willing to help out moms and kids at Faith House. You made sure that they had gifts under the tree on Christmas morning.

I also saw many of you stand up for what was right in 2020. Too often the mainstream media highlighted the negativity in our country, but I saw people of different races hold hands and lift each other up in 2020.

Again, I am not trying to diminish what we all experienced in 2020, but if we look back on the year, we will all find something good from it, like those who work in the medical field.

Moms and dads isolated from their own families to make sure they could help out those affected by the coronavirus. We saw those on the frontline leave their own families for weeks to answer the call of duty and to take care of those who needed it most.

For parents, you saw first hand what can happen when a school comes together to ensure the safety of our kids. Teachers, principals, custodians, and bus drivers worked long hours and adjusted to the protocol so that kids could return to school safely during the pandemic.

So here's to 2020 and to a much better 2021. If we believe and if we all do our small part, 2021 will a year of VICTORY.

Happy New Year!
