There's a breakdown of the richest person in every state, and how that person achieved their fortune.

While there are still some states that have millionaires as the richest person, it seems that most states have billionaires. That includes Louisiana. If you gave it a good thought, it's probably not THAT much of a surprise who the richest person in Louisiana is.

According to MarketWatch and other sources, the richest person in Louisiana is Tom Benson.

He is worth $2.8 billion, up from $1.5 billion in 2016. You probably know Benson as the owner of the New Orleans Saints, his biggest asset worth $1.1 billion.

Benson started making his money as the owner of car dealerships and banks, all the while funneling his money into more dealerships, banks, and eventually sports teams. He acquired the New Orleans Pelicans in 2012 for $338 million. The Pelicans attendance has been up with their current play, especially that of Anthony Davis, and their franchise record winning streak.

A 26-story building that he owns is named for him and the city's Fox affiliate.
