We have so much to offer, from food to music and various festivals, it's easy to have a good time here. We might be biased, but Louisiana has some of the best people around who wouldn't hesitate to take the shirt off their back to help a neighbor in a time of need.

So that begs the question when Louisiana has so much good going for it, how and why did we rank as the worst state to live in?

Louisiana Ranks First On List Of Worst States To Live

Louisiana wasn't just ranked as the worst state to live in once but twice this year. US News and World Report ranks Louisiana near the bottom of every category, including Crime, Health Care, and Education.

WalletHub also ranks Louisiana as the worst state to live in because of reasons like 'Cancer Alley,' our violent crime rates being 65% higher than the rest of the country, and our road conditions. But honestly, these are all extremely valid and apparent concerns for Louisiana residents.

One in five people in the state lives in poverty, 28.7% of its roads were in poor condition, and it had 629 violent crimes per 100,000 people — 65% higher than the national average.

The state has also faced challenges on the health front, especially in areas along the Mississippi River between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, where many communities live next to petrochemical and fuel industries, Human Rights Watch reported. In fact, this 85-mile stretch has been dubbed "cancer alley.

 

The Good News? At Least We Know How to Have Fun.

While Louisiana may be the worst state to live in, we are also among the states that have the most fun. Louisiana took the 10th place spot on WalletHub's list of 'Most Fun States in America'. So at least we have that going for us.
