New Iberia sure knows how to throw a party. The 30th anniversary of the wildly popular World Championship Gumbo Cookoff is happening this weekend at Bouligny Plaza in beautiful downtown New Iberia. The theme this year is 'Lights, Cameras, Gumbo', and the sponsor of the event, Iberia Chamber of Commerce, is expecting crowds reaching 20,000 for this tasty annual party along Bayou Teche on October 12 and 13.

Festivities kick off Saturday with the 'Cajun Creole Foodfest'  And then Sunday, the 'Battle of the Roux' begins with over 90 teams competing for the honor of best gumbo. Entertainment lineup this year includes Chubby Carriere and the Bayou Swamp Band, Three37 Band, Broken MeauxJo, and LA ROXX on Saturday, and Geno Delafose and French Rockin' Boogie and Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers on Sunday.

Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. If you want to put together a team, you can register HERE. Check out one of the cool videos from a couple of years ago below.
