A number of people have represented the Acadiana area in the National Football League.

All summer long, we’re going to spotlight the fantastic athletes from the area, people that were actually born in one of the Acadiana parishes, that went on to play football at the highest level, the NFL.

Yesterday, we profiled the first person born in the Acadiana area to play in the NFL, Roy Young.

Today, Tom Dimmick.

As far as we can tell, Dimmick was the second person that was born in the Acadiana area that went on to play in the NFL.

Born on May 1, 1931, in Opelousas, Young went to high school in Lake Charles, before going on to play his college football at the University of Houston.

Following his time in college, Dimmick was selected in the 10th round, with the 113th-overall pick, by the Philadelphia Eagles, in the 1956 NFL Draft..

A 6-foot-6, 253-pound offensive lineman, Dimmick made his NFL debut in 1956, at the age of 25, playing in 12 games for the Eagles, all at tackle.

The next season, in 1957, Dimmick moved north, to the Canadian Football League, where he helped the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to the Grey Cup championship.

Out of football for the next two years, Dimmick returned to the NFL in 1960, playing in 13 games for the Dallas Texans, prior to retiring.

Today, at the age of 86, Dimmick is one o the oldest living professional football players.
