There have been lots of curiosity around the future of the Cortana Mall in Baton Rouge. That mystery may get solved soon.

Daily Report, an online newspaper, says they've confirmed that "plans are in the works to repurpose the soon-to-be-vacant Cortana Mall into a regional distribution and fulfillment center for Amazon."

Getting confirmation has been a bit elusive though.

“For competitive reasons and to protect confidential company information, we can’t comment on current or potential prospects.” Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson said.

“Though details of the deal are unknown and may not yet be finalized, sources say plans call for using the 1-million-square-foot shopping mall to service the e-retail giant’s growing customer base in Louisiana and southern Mississippi,” Daily Report’s Stephanie Riegel reported on Tuesday.

As with many malls, the Cortana Mall has suffered through a declining retail base for years. The few remaining tenants have been given notice to vacate.

Amazon already has a footprint in Baton Rouge. They're currently operating out of a 21,000 square foot temporary facility near Costco on Airline Highway.
