Unnecessary Additives to Watch Out For:

  • Sugar - For obvious reasons. High amounts of sugar add to the taste but decrease the health benefits. Always check the nutrition label for added sugars.
  • Salt - Used to give a longer shelf life but otherwise not needed for taste. Luckily most brands offer an "unsalted" version.
  • Hydrogenated Oils- Have You ever noticed your natural peanut butter separates? That is actually a good sign that you have purchased a healthier peanut butter. The sole purpose of these oils are to prevent separation and improve texture but they do cause inflammation and should be avoided.
