Duson Mother Arrested for Child Neglect and Injury; Public Outraged by Past Incidents
The arrest of 34-year-old Angel Duhon by the Duson Police Department following an investigation into the severe injuries sustained by her 4-year-old daughter has raised serious concerns among the public.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, July 17, 2023, prompted friends of Duhon to call 911, reporting that the child had either jumped or fallen out of a truck and was subsequently run over in the 200 block of F Street in Duson. Shockingly, Duhon allegedly refused to seek medical attention for her injured child.
Medical professionals rushed the child to Oschner's Lafayette General Hospital, where she arrived in excruciating pain and unable to stand, walk, or move without assistance. Doctors confirmed that the injuries suffered by the child were consistent with being struck by a vehicle or jumping out of one.
The arrest of Angel Duhon on charges of cruelty to a juvenile highlights a deeply concerning pattern of neglect. Startlingly, this is the fifth child to be removed from Duhon's custody. The news has sparked outrage among members of the community, who question why it took such a severe incident for action to be taken.
"Wow, that brings up a ton of questions now," commented one concerned citizen. "Why did it take this four-year-old to get severely hurt before she was removed? Obviously, this is an unfit mother/environment. These poor children."
Others expressed admiration for the individuals who reported the incident and sought help for the injured child. "Kudos to the people that called to get that baby the help she needed," one commenter said. "Hope she recovers quickly and is somewhere where she will be loved."
However, there is widespread frustration with the authorities for not acting sooner. "She BEEEN UNFIT. It takes this to happen for the state to remove the child! They have to do better," exclaimed another member of the public.
A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, shared their relief upon hearing about the arrest. "Thank God! This is our neighbors' crazy baby momma, and we have called the cops and reported her hundreds of times! She threatens her kids outside, curses them out, beats them in daylight, and all caught on our cameras, and nothing had ever been done! I pray these babies are all taken away and put into foster care!"
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the injuries and whether they were the result of an accident or a deliberate act. Angel Duhon, the mother, is either unwilling or unable to identify the individual responsible for driving the vehicle that caused harm to her child.
As the case continues to unfold, the Duson Police Department acknowledges the possibility of additional arrests. The department remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, particularly vulnerable children who are at risk of harm due to neglect or abuse.
Anyone with information related to this case is urged to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
