Benefit Concert to Virtually Raise Funds for Music Students
The coronavirus pandemic has really wreaked havoc on a lot of industries in South Louisiana. The music and entertainment industry has been basically shut down since the state went into Stay-at-Home mode back in March.
For many families, the pandemic has meant making some hard choices where music education is concerned. Many parents in the area have had to curtail or cancel their children's music lessons because of financial stress.
If you're one of those families then there is some great news for you.
The Lafayette Community M.I. Brary is teaming up with the Music Academy of Acadiana to form the M.I.Brary Music Lessons Relief Fundraiser. If you're not familiar with the M.I. Brary allows students to check out musical instruments like they would a book. The Music Academy of Acadiana teaches those children how to play those instruments.
The fundraising goal for the venture is $6,400 or the approximate cost of a month's worth of lessons for 50 students who have dropped out of lessons at The Music Academy.
Organizers of the event say the fundraising effort will receive a huge push this Thursday at 7:30 during a live virtual concert. Here's where you can watch it. The concert will feature such local talents as Sweet Cecilia, Major Handy, Sailor Mouth, and Dr. C& the Gris Gris.
