Homecoming is supposed to be a blast for the fans, but Idaho came into Lafayette and crashed the Ragin' Cajuns' party.

The Cajun offense couldn't get things going all day against an Idaho defense that was allowing over 400 yards per game on defense. Anthony Jennings found the endzone once on the ground, but that was the only time Mark Hudspeth's team found paydirt. In a 23-13 loss, the Cajuns simply didn't get it done on offense.

"We are just not getting any production, and we've got to find a way to score more than 13 points in a Sun Belt game," Hudspeth said after the game. "What we are doing is not working."

In the second half, the Cajuns only collected 95 total yards on offense, and star running back Elijah McGuire finished with 55 yards on 17 carries. During the fourth quarter, when they needed a comeback, the Cajuns had -8 rushing yards and  they didn't get a single point on the scoreboard. It was a frustrating performance, and it dropped the Cajuns to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the Sun Belt Conference.

Urgency is setting in for Hudspeth's team. With a short turnaround before their next game, he's not going to let hem pout about the homecoming loss.

"We don't have time to sit around and sulk, because we play again in five days," Hudspeth said.

They head to Statesboro to play Georgia Southern on Thursday, which doesn't leave much time to make adjustments.

Aside from a 52-yard completion to Michael Jacquet, the Cajuns couldn't find a spark on offense. Anthony Jennings and McGuire were clearly hobbled on offense, and it affected the team's total output. Coach Hud said McGuire was "50 percent at best," and he pointed out that it's hard to operate without your top offensive player.

On the opposite side, Idaho racked up 384 yards of offense against a Cajun defense that was trying to bail their teammates out. Neither team turned the ball over, but the Vandals did enough to pick up the win in conference play.

The remaining games on the schedule aren't kind to the Cajuns either. After traveling to Georgia Southern, they play the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, take on a surging Arkansas State squad, then close out the season with a rivalry game against the ULM Warhawks. There is still a light at the end of the tunnel, but with the loss, it got a little farther out of reach.
