When walking through a cemetery, you expect the typical head stones, not SpongeBob Squarepants! Sgt. Kimberly Walker loved SpongeBob Squarepants and Jeff Gordon. She was murdered by her boyfriend in February 2013. Her family wanted to honor her memory and the love she had for the cartoon character. The Walker family spent $26,000 for two 6 foot 8 inch SpongeBob Squarepants granite statues. The SpongeBob Squarepants statues feature him dressed in Army uniforms and number 24 (to represent Jeff Gordon). Knowing the monument was out of the ordinary, the family made sure to receive permission from Spring Grove Cemetery to install the monument. They even purchased six plots to accommodate the massive monument. But now the family is being instructed to remove the monument because it doesn’t fit within cemetery guidelines. The cemetery is offering the Walker family different designs at no cost.
