Church Point Man Wanted for First Degree Murder Following Deadly Tuesday Night Shooting

Police have identified a suspect and issued an arrest warrant following a deadly shooting Tuesday night in Church Point that left one person dead.

According to an update released Wednesday, October 14, at 12:30 p.m., Jason Delano Hopkins, 20, of Church Point, is wanted on a charge of first-degree murder, along with two additional felony charges in connection with the shooting.

The announcement comes less than 24 hours after officers responded to a shooting along South Broadway Street that claimed the life of a victim whose identity has not yet been released.

Church Point Police Identify Suspect Wanted for Murder

The Church Point Police Department has identified Hopkins as a suspect in the October 13 shooting.

Authorities say an arrest warrant has been issued for Hopkins on the following charges:

• First degree murder

• Convicted felon in possession of a firearm

• Obstruction of justice

Police are asking the public for assistance in locating Hopkins, whose whereabouts were unknown at the time of Wednesday's update.

Investigators have not released details explaining what led them to identify Hopkins as a suspect or what role they believe he played in the shooting.

No motive has been publicly disclosed.

According to Church Point Police Chief Dale Thibodeaux, officers were dispatched to a shooting on South Broadway Street around 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 13.

Police confirmed that the victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
