Church Point Woman Arrested After Setting Fire in Relatives Home
As a result of an investigation into a March 13th house fire a Church Point woman is now facing charges of arson. Lafayette Police arrested 23-year-old Judayla Woods last Sunday, April 12th, following her release from an area medical facility. She was then turned over to authorities in Acadia Parish where she is facing arson charges.
According to reports Woods had just been released from jail in March and was staying at home on Vallery Lane. In the early morning hours of March 13th residents of that home reported a fire. Fortunately, the blaze was confined to a mattress and was extinguished by one of the residents.
Church Point Police investigating the incident encountered Woods in the room where the fire occurred. She was reportedly brandishing a large knife. Police were able to persuade Woods to give up the weapon and she was taken into custody for evaluation.
It was during that evaluation that Woods admitted to setting the mattress on fire. Following her release from the medical facility, she was then transported by deputies with the State Fire Marshal's office to Acadia Parish where she is now facing aggravated arson charges.
