Public Service Commissioner Mike Francis has announced that CLECO customers will be receiving a monthly credit on their utility bills starting in August.

The credit will appear on each month's statement from August 2019 through July of 2020 according to Francis.

Why is this happening?

Francis says when the Trump Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was passed two years ago, it provided for a reduction in the corporate income-tax. He adds that the Public Service Commission voted for CLECO to pass that savings on to consumers.

Public Service Commission Chairman Francis had this to say,

"I am happy that we were able to translate these tax cuts into lower CLECO bills beginning in the hot summer months, when they would have the greatest impact."

With the U.S. corporate income-tax rate dropping by 14 percent, the average CLECO customer will see a $12 credit on their bills.

CLECO's average customer uses around 1217 kilowatt-hours, and the credit will appear as "TCJA Bill Credit" on their bill. It stands for Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Francis says your actual credit amount will depend on how many kilowatt-hours you use.

There are currently 285,000 CLECO customers in the state of Louisiana.
