For the second time in less than a week Comeaux High School was burglarized.

An estimated $1,300 in computer equipment was stolen from Comeaux High on October 4, and this time over $5,000 of gear has been stolen from the Spartans baseball locker room.

Head coach Jeramie Broussard told Cajun First the timing couldn't be worse.

It's a sad story because some of the kids can't quite afford it some of that stuff now-a-days. Went into our locker room stole a bunch of equipment, lot of players' gloves, sunglasses, you name it, they probably basically took it. a lot of bats, up to almost 4000 dollars worth of gear.

Lafayette Police PIO Karl Ratcliff says there are no eyewitnesses or surveillance footage so they are reaching out to the community for help. Lafayette PD is also working with Comeaux to make their facility safer.

An assistant coach has set up a GoFundMe page, praising Coach Broussard for what he has done with the Comeaux Baseball program in just his second year. With "Coach Chop," it's more than just baseball when it comes to his players.

Even with the flooding in their own families, these young men came out, under Coach Chop's guidance, during the entire week we were off and spent everyday, 8 to 12 hours a day, helping families throughout our community.

Though it will be tough (and expensive), Comeaux will bounce back from this, but some of things stolen are impossible to replace.

One of the items taken from the locker room was a UL baseball hat that belonged to Justin Schrader. Justin is a huge UL fan and got the hat at his first Cajuns baseball game when he was six years old. Even though his coaches joke that he can't possibly still fit in the hat, Justin explains

you don't understand, that's the first UL had my dad bought for me.

If you have any information related to the items stolen from Comeaux High contact Lafayette Police, and check out the GoFundMe page here.

Good luck to the Spartans, and hopefully they can replace the stolen items.
