Costco Manager Stays Calm While Being Berated By Customer Who Refused To Wear Mask
A video filmed by a man who refused to wear his mask in Costco has now gone viral.
The clip made the rounds on social media Tuesday and featured a shopper who didn’t put on a mask because “he woke up in a free country.” The defiant shopper filmed the interaction at a Costco in Colorado telling the store manager that he was recording the incident to put on his “3,000-follower Instagram feed.”
The masked employee whose badge identified him as Tison addressed the camera explaining that it was store policy to wear a mask.
Hi everyone, I work for Costco and I’m asking this member to put on a mask because that is our company policy. So either wear the mask …,
The 36-second clip has been viewed over 9 million times on Twitter alone.
Once the hostile patron flipped the camera around he claimed he wasn’t putting a mask on because “he woke up in a free country.” Manager Tison told the man to “have a great day” then snatched the customer’s cart away. The irate shopper didn't like that at all.
So you’re gonna take this cart from me full of stuff? There he goes walking away with all my stuff, there he goes because I’m not a f–king sheep
Costco’s mask policy has been in effect for quite some time now and all customers are required to wear a mask. Once the video went viral, Tison was hailed as a “hero” and many people insisted that Costco give him a raise. The Costco manager seemingly responded to the Twittersphere by thanking them for their support.
My opinion here is that if you want to wear a mask, then wear one. I also believe that if you think that masks are ridiculous, then don't wear one. But, if you really want to go to a place where their policy requires them, then you simply wear one or don't go.
The best example I can think to compare this to is hats in a bar. I wear hats often. Some places don't allow them. If I really want to go to these places, I either take it off to go inside, or I don't go at all. The internet seems to agree.
