Council to Vote on New Food Truck Ordinance Tonight, Residents Not Pleased

The Lafayette City/Parish Council is set to vote on a new ordinance that governs food trucks in the parish, and residents aren't pleased with the proposal.

According to KLFY TV10, the new ordinance will contain an increase in the annual permit for a food truck to operate.

With the announcement of the proposed change, residents of Acadiana are angry and took to social media to express their displeasure.

Lots of the responses made accusations against the Lafayette City Council, insinuating that they were "pocketing" the money they were requiring the food trucks to cough up.

Others were wondering about the justification for raising the fees, and if the regular delivery restaurants would be subject to the same fees.

Questions about the cost to the city to have these food trucks operating also arose, with others doing the math to show how inexpensive the fee appears in his eyes.

And then, as if we didn't think it was going to happen, the comment section turned political.

So what does the ordinance contain? According to the post, the new ordinance being proposed will include:

$400 permit fee renewed each July, address for Commissary, Certificate of Insurance, LCG Indemnification and Hold Harmless Agreement (same as SMD), Valid Vehicle registration, and Valid permits from LA Dept of Health & Hospitals for Commissary and Mobile Food Establishment. No drive-thru, external lighting or outdoor seating allowed. - KLFY
