Generous Customer Pays Restaurant Bill for Complete Strangers Who Got Devastating News

Talk about paying it forward.

A man eating by himself at a Boston-area restaurant recently paid the bill for two women after he heard them break into tears.

The waiter claims the women – who appeared to be a mother and daughter – started crying for unknown reasons after the younger woman received a phone call. When the waiter went to pick up the man's bill, he saw the man also included a note, which he has since posted on Reddit that read:

Do me a favor and bring me their check, too. Someone just got diagnosed. Don't tell them."

Sure enough, the man paid for both checks and, after he left, the waiter told the women what had happened. The incident left quite an impression. The waiter wrote, "The mother cried even harder, I almost lost it." He also may have summed up the whole matter quite simply by saying, "Faith in humanity, restored."
