Viewers who tuned into Discovery Channel to watch 'Eaten Alive' were left hanging when researcher Paul Rosolie failed to get swallowed by an anaconda.

For two hours many watched in anticipation as Rosolie and his crew traveled 100 miles deep into the Amazon to track down an 18-foot anaconda—big enough to swallow him whole.

Rosolie even had a special carbon fiber suit built specifically for the stunt in order to protect his ribs and provide oxygen while filming the entire stunt.

Toward the end of the episode it seemed as if it was time for the grand finale as the snake began to wrap him up—but to the dismay of many who tuned in, his team rushed in to free him from the grip of the snake before he could be eaten.

Others hilariously mocked the failed attempt.

To make matters worse, TMZ is reporting that the snake used in the show wasn't even found in the wild.

Sources on the production tell us things started going south when Rosolie couldn't find and capture a 25-foot snake in the Amazon -- so he had to use a ringer -- a normally captive snake that was too small to get the job done. Paul ultimately tapped out because the stand-in was still strong enough to rip his arm out of the socket.

In the end no snakes were harmed, but a lot of people won't be getting two hours of their Sunday night back.
