Earlier today, Gov. Edwards announced emergency rental assistance of at least $24 million to help Louisianians having a difficult time paying rent because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program will provide financial assistance for renters who are not current on their rent and/or at serious risk of eviction due to the pandemic.

The emergency rent payments will be made directly to landlords.

The Louisiana Emergency Rental Assistance Program is being made available to  households whose income does not exceed $13,500 - $25,450, dependent upon household size.

You can apply for the emergency rental assistance online at LaRentHelp.com or by dialing 2-1-1.

The first phase of the program is funded with $7 million from the HOME Investment Partnership Program that is currently available, and the next phases will be funded by $5 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds and $12 million in Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. CDBG and ESG funds are not yet available, but are expected very soon. All the funding is provided to the state from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
