Facebook is now offering new tools to make your break ups a little easier to deal with.

The last thing you want to see after a break up with someone is a timeline of their new life without you. Even if you unfriend them, hide them, or just block them altogether—it always seems like your ex has a way of finding their way back into your online life.

You may be tagged in old photos, or maybe their name pops up as a suggestion when posting a message to Facebook.

Starting today, Facebook is looking to change the way exes are handled after a break up.

A new set of tools will be available when you go to change your relationship status on Facebook. The tools will let you control three major things:

How much of your ex you see of Facebook

How much your ex sees of you on Facebook

Limit the ability to see past posts of you and your ex when you were together

Facebook product manager Kelly Winters says they hope these tools will help people "end relationships on Facebook with greater ease, comfort and sense of control."

This work is part of our ongoing effort to develop resources for people who may be going through difficult moments in their lives

Before these tools, the same end results could have been accomplished by hiding your ex from the News Feed, but not everyone knows how to navigate through Facebook's web of privacy settings—plus, they are constantly changing.

According to The Verge, this is Facebook's proactive way of reaching out when you make your break up "Facebook official," almost like a BFF who makes sure you don't ruin your night out just because your ex is in the same club.

The changes are available in test mode on mobile devices today, but will roll out to all users based on feedback.

Have you ever had an awkward Facebook moment with your ex? Will you be using these tools?
