A fiery fatal crash involving multiple vehicles had the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 closed for much of Monday and Tuesday. The westbound lanes were finally reopened yesterday morning after inspection crews had a chance to examine the roadway and bridge structure.

Following that inspection the roadway was found to be safe for traffic however, there will still need to be some repairs made. The portion of the roadway that will likely need the most attention is the actual roadbed or pavement.

The heat from the intense flames created by the accident damaged the surface of the roadway. Repairs will need to be instituted quickly to avoid further damage from the motion of traffic over the damaged roadbed.

Funding for those repairs will be requested from the federal government first. Should that request be denied state officials will then look for funding through the Secretary of State's Emergency Fund.
