Hotel Hair Dryers Are The Filthiest Item In Your Room
Germophobes beware! You might want to think twice before using that hotel blow dryer on your hair.
Aww, that's cute. I rhymed.
Unfortunately, there is nothing cute about all of the germs and bacteria casually hanging out on your hotel room hair dryer.
According to Reader's Digest, hair dryers are the filthiest items in hotel rooms. I'm talking grimier than hotel toilets and ice buckets (which everyone already knows not to use, right?). Even microbiologist Chuck Gerba was dumb-founded by the amount of nastiness on hotel room blow dryers, saying "There must be some things you can do with a hair dryer that I am not aware of, because some of them were pretty germy".
Why so germy, little hotel hair dryers? Reader's Digest suggests that even though there are state codes saying hotels must sanitize things like toilets and drinking glasses, there is nothing in place that specifically says "clean the hair dryer". This means a hotel room hair dryer could sit there for years without ever being disinfected. Gross.
So, next time you plan a hotel stay you might want to think about bringing your own hair dryer, or a bottle of disinfectant. Whatever floats your boat.
If you want some more dirty details about hotel hair dryer hygiene, check out Chuck Gerba's study on the ABC website or read more in Reader's Digest.
