The food manufacturer Totally Cool Inc. announced a voluntary recall in Louisiana and nationwide for several products they make that are sold under popular brand names. The recall was initiated after discovering some of their products may be contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes.

What is Listeria Monocytogenes?

According to the FDA, it is an organism that "can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Production and distribution of the products manufactured by Tottally Cool Inc. that are affected have stopped at this time. The FDA discovered the presence of Listeria monocytogens in their samples.
