In the wake of a severe injury to Southern wide receiver Devon Gales, his parents were flown in at the expense of the University of Georgia.

Gales suffered a severe injury to his spinal cord in the third quarter this past Saturday while attempting to make a block on a Georgia defender. He lowered his head, and upon contact, fell to the turf where he laid motionless.

The Southern wide receiver was immediately surrounded by trainers then eventually carted off the field. According to reports, Gales has movement in his upper body after suffering several fractures in his neck and having surgery to stabilize his injury.

Gales parents were not at the game, but they were able to be with their son at the hospital after the University of Georgia covered their travel expenses.

UGA head coach Mark Richt and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer paid a visit to Gales in the hospital on Saturday.

We’re trying to cover him up with as much love as we can, and let him know that we care, let him know that we’re here to help. We’re just gonna continue to pray, and I know the Bulldog nation is behind him as well. There may come a time where there may be some needs. Not exactly sure yet. But if it does come to that I’m going to be calling all Dawgs to get involved and to help out.

Much like the classy tribute to Grand Theater shooting victim, Mayci Breaux, by Ascension Episcopal School, it's often the stories behind the game that makes us love sports so much.

What a first class move from coach Richt and UGA. Get well soon, Devon!
