A popular late-night dessert chain known for delivering warm cookies into the early morning hours is preparing to open its first Lafayette location.

Insomnia Cookies plans to open a new Downtown Lafayette store at 505 Jefferson Street, first reported by Developing Lafayette. The shop will be located between Hub City Cycles and Teche Drugs Pharmacy, two doors down from Cocodrie Collective, inside the former DBR space.

The brand, which already operates Louisiana locations in Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, and New Orleans, is known for its made-to-order cookies, cookie cakes, brownies, and ice cream. Many locations operate until around 1 a.m., with delivery available even later in some markets.

Downtown Leaders Note the Sign Of Momentum

Downtown Lafayette CEO Kevin Blanchard welcomed the news as another step forward for the city’s core district.

“Downtown just upgraded its bedtime routine. Warm cookies, no curfew,” Blanchard said.

It’s gratifying that the larger market is waking up to the progress and growth we’ve been making downtown.

This adds to recent Downtown developments, including Hotel Lafayette, which is currently under construction, hundreds of new residential units, and visible improvements from the newly implemented Downtown Ambassadors program.

Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) President and CEO Mandi Mitchell also praised the announcement, calling it a positive signal for continued investment in the area.

“It’s exciting to see a national brand like Insomnia Cookies choose downtown Lafayette. This a strong signal of momentum and adds another reason for people to stay, gather, and enjoy our city after hours,” Mitchell said.

Kudos to the steadfast work of Kevin and his board and team for continuing to fuel the growth of the heart of our entire region.

Permits Filed For Jefferson Street Location

According to DL, Public records show that permits have been filed for renovations and signage at the Jefferson Street site. Those filings appear to be in early review stages, and buildout details have not yet been finalized.

While there is no official opening date, the relatively small footprint of the space could allow for construction to move quickly once approved, potentially taking two to four months.

Founded in 2003 by Seth Berkowitz in a college dorm room, Insomnia Cookies was created to solve a simple problem: finding fresh, warm food late at night. More than two decades later, the brand has grown into a nationally recognized name built around late-night sweets and delivery.

If approved as planned, the new Jefferson Street location will add another after hours option in the heart of Downtown Lafayette’s nightlife and entertainment corridor.
