Louisiana Beachgoers May Notice Huge Change on Florida Beaches
(KTDY) - If the beach is calling your name in the near future, or by the summer, you may notice a considerable change to some of the beaches along the Emerald Gulf Coast.
Depending on where you stay when you visit the coast in Florida, you may not recognize the beaches, and that's a good thing. Specifically in Navarre Beach, nestled between Pensacola and Destin, Florida, a massive project has been completed to widen the beaches.
A beach renourishment project has been completed in Navarre Beach, and the hike to the water in the Gulf has just gotten a bit longer. Yes, sand was pumped from the Gulf and onto the beach so that the restoration project could be completed.
The beaches in Navarre, Florida, are not only much wider, allowing more space for beachgoers, but they have also been beautified. The sand is as soft as snow, and the appearance resembles sugar scattered across the beach.
Why Beach Restoration is Important
The beach restoration project, now complete in Navarre, also helps protect the coastline and further protects the property inland from flooding. If you have ever seen a beach restoration project, it is pretty impressive: barges pump sand through large hoses, which is ultimately used to replenish the beach.
Here's another look at the beaches in Navarre Beach now, and as you can see, it's a journey to reach the water---but who's complaining?
Let me give you beachgoers a hint: while the sunsets are beautiful during the summer months, do yourself a favor and get to the beach in the fall; the sunsets are GORGEOUS.
Also, when you visit the beach in the fall, the threat of a hurricane ruining your trip diminishes, and the rental prices on beautiful properties drop drastically. And yes, often the water is still warm enough for you or the kids to enjoy.
While we're on the subject of the beaches in Florida, let's take a look at a few recent photos of the beach that is likely calling your name.
So, if you will be visiting Navarrea Beach in the months ahead, expect to take a few more steps as you get closer to the water, and prepare for the workout it may take to get the beach necessities with you.
